New York State Capitol in Albany, New York state capital, USA.
Here’s some fun news – and by fun I mean mean the exact opposite: the NYS Assembly is trying to pass legislation to legally require all firearm owners to purchase liability insurance.
The bill is Assembly Bill A2260, and it would require every firearm owner to purchase and hold a liability insurance policy of $250,000 the entire time that they own firearms. And if you don’t?
“Failure to maintain such insurance shall result in the immediate revocation of such owner’s registration, license and any other privilege to own such firearm.”
It’s rather like if you let your car insurance lapse – and instead of taking away your driver’s license, they took away your car.
This bill is currently in committee. If you do not want this bill to pass, then your assembly members need to hear from you that you do not support this bill!
Assembly Bill A2260 has been sent to the Committee on Insurance. Here is a list of committee members:

A nearly-identical version of this bill has been introduced to the NYS Assembly for the past two sessions, but it has never made it out of committee.
